Are all Senselock dongles driverless?

Yes and no! Most dongles in the Senselock dongle range function as plug & play devices, so normally there is no need for a dongle. However, there are certain hyper-secure installations where for security reasons, the plug & play facility must be disabled. For these types of scenarios, certain dongles in the Senselcok range are supplied with their own device driver. What is contained in the Senselock Trial Kit?

The Senselock trial kit contains a fully functional Senselock dongle and a CD for installing the SDK. The trial kit can be used indefinitely without any limitation in features. The type of Senselock dongle contained in the kit depends on the type of kit ordered.

What are the benefits of the Real-Time-Clock dongle?

To set expiry dates on application software licenses, a reliable and independent clock mechanism is essential for guaranteeing the accuracy of time. Such a mechanism avoids the dependence on the host system clock, which can be maliciously distored in the OS. Our independent clocking devices, the EL RTC and the EL RTCC, have no time validating communication between the dongle and the host system, thus ensuring that the time used is unchangeable, making hese devices invaluable to many types of advanced software licensing mechanisms.

While the EL RTC dongle provides a secure time clocking mechanism for licensing, its own life in deployment is limited by the life span of its embedded battery, which is 3 years, meaning that this is not a near-eternal solution. To combat this limitation, Senselock engineers have developed a breakthrough on power usage by introducing a dongle with a rechargeable source, the EL RTCC. The last "C" in the name of this dongle stands for "chargeable".

The EL RTCC has the same technical performance as the EL RTC, plus is has the unique attribute that is can be repeatedly charged & discharged. The EL RTCC adopts internal LDO power-supply management, so when connected to the host system, its internal power-supply management automatically switches over to external power-supply, which charges the embedded battery simultaneously. The other great strength of the EL RTCC technoclogy is that its clock maintains accuracy over a minimum of 5 years if it is not plugged into a host computer. The EL-RTCC is our solution to near-eternal protection from licensing abuse due to system clock manipulation.

When does the network dongle make sense?

In deployment scenarios where there are a number of networked instances of an application to be licensed, rather than issue a dongle for each instance of the application, Senselock provides a neat solution in the shape of a single server-side dongle, resulting in significantly lower deployment cost and lower maintenance cost. The single server-side dongle, the EL Net, can license a number of instances of an application simultaneously via the network.

In addition to licensing a number of application instances, the Elite EL Net dongle balances the networking load with other EL Net devices and initiates the service automatically. Furthermore, EL Net provides a feature to create, edit and delete a white/black list to enable the management of access from peers on the network. The Elite EL Net truly is advanced dongle technology.

Who sets the number of copies of an application licensed by a network dongle?

Unlike competing products on the market today, the developer can pre-configure the number of peer applications to enable using the Elite EL Net dongle. Other manufacturers impose a limit on the number of application instances that can be licensed. Senselock leaves the setting of this number free to the developer.
